Manchester United third signing ‘confirmed’ amid surprise Adrien Rabiot transfer boost
3 min readLatest Manchester United transfer news and gossip includes an update on Chido Obi-Martin and Adrien Rabiot
Chido Obi-Martin has chosen Manchester United as his next club after turning down higher bids upon leaving Arsenal.
The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month that United were working on a deal to sign striker Obi-Martin and they were hopeful of securing his signature. Obi-Martin is understood to have visited Carrington in the build-up to his move which will see him follow Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro in joining the club this summer.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a move will happen after he turned down higher bids from clubs in Germany. Meanwhile, Sky Sports add the youngster’s departure from Arsenal was not a financially motivated decision.
It is said that he agreed a contract with Arsenal but there was doubts over his pathway into the first team and the Gunners’ project. Obi-Martin reportedly felt his career was best served at a new club.
Elsewhere, United have been handed a boost in their pursuit for free agent Adrien Rabiot. Real Madrid were thought to be considering the signing of the France international but reports in Spain (via Football 365) claims Florentino Lopez has decided a transfer has been ruled out.
Rabiot’s future is yet to be resolved after leaving Juventus following the expiration of his contract last month. After ending a five-year stint with the Italian giants, he is ready for a new adventure with a number of clubs lining up for his services.
Rabiot was close to joining United in 2020 and, during his time at Paris-Saint Germain, but the move was halted by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Another attempt to sign him in 2022 collapsed amid reports of excessive wage demands, leading Ten Hag to choose Casemiro instead.
United may have an advantage over other clubs, though. His mother Veronique Rabiot confirmed the good relationship with the Reds, saying: “We are on excellent terms with Manchester United. United wanted to meet me to illustrate their interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin [back in 2023].”
