Man Utd Remains Keen on Premier League Forward Following Hojlund Injury
2 min readManchester United is evaluating a potential transfer for Ivan Toney as his contract with Brentford nears its end. With only a year remaining on his deal, Brentford is considering selling Toney, and the Red Devils are interested in exploring this opportunity.
Brentford previously set a high asking price for Toney, which deterred some potential buyers. However, with time running out on his contract, Brentford may lower their demands. Manchester United, facing a need for reinforcements after Rasmus Hojlund’s injury, which could sideline him for up to two months, is exploring options to strengthen their forward line. Manager Erik ten Hag is looking for experienced attacking players, and Toney’s proven Premier League record makes him an appealing option.
Toney has demonstrated his capabilities in the Premier League, scoring double figures in both of his seasons since moving up from the Championship. According to Forbes, Brentford might now be willing to negotiate a transfer for around £40 million, a fee that could attract Manchester United as they aim to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
Erik ten Hag has acknowledged the club’s intent to make new signings, noting that the new leadership team is actively pursuing opportunities. “We are always looking,” Ten Hag stated. “This new leadership team is really eager to do business. To make deals. They are on it. But we have to wait if the timing is there, if the opportunities are there. I can’t say at this moment, but I am sure when they are there, we will go forward.”
Last season, Hojlund was expected to lead the attack despite his inexperience, and although he was signed with long-term potential in mind, he struggled to make an immediate impact, not scoring his first league goal until Boxing Day.
