Liverpool Receives Darwin Nunez Transfer Guidance as Arne Slot Takes Over ‘Agent of Chaos’ Role
2 min readChris Sutton advises Liverpool against selling Darwin Nunez despite his challenging end to last season. Nunez struggled in the final games, failing to score in his last 10 appearances, and was dropped from the starting lineup. This poor form led him to remove photos of himself in Liverpool gear from his Instagram account, which he later attributed to negative fan comments rather than any indication of wanting to leave the club.
Speculation about a potential move to Barcelona emerged, but such a transfer was always unlikely due to the significant fee Liverpool paid for Nunez in 2022, reportedly a club-record £85 million.
Sutton acknowledges that while Nunez has been inconsistent and notably hit the woodwork four times in a single Premier League game against Chelsea in January, his all-action style and significant attributes make him a valuable player. Sutton believes Liverpool fans should be patient with Nunez’s finishing issues, emphasizing that his overall contribution to the team is substantial.
“There is a natural element to finishing. He does brilliant things, but he will remain a frustration to Liverpool fans. I wouldn’t be in a rush to get him out of the door though.”

Jurgen Klopp lost patience with Nunez towards the end of last season, but the South American still weighed in with 18 goals and 13 assists. He also became the first Premier League player in January to reach double figures for goals and assists.
Nunez is 25 and still improving and Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa got 10 goals out of him last season. Nunez rediscovered his best form in the early stages of the Copa America and he bagged a hat-trick in the friendly against Mexico and netted in their first two games against Panama and Bolivia.
