Conor Gallagher Addresses Chelsea Transfer Speculation with Brief Statement

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is currently in Madrid as he prepares for a potential transfer from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Gallagher’s move has been anticipated, with speculation suggesting that his departure was a factor in Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Chelsea earlier this summer. Recent reports indicated that Gallagher was informed by the club that he would not be part of the first-team plans upon his return from pre-season.

Enzo Maresca confirmed that Gallagher had been in contact with Chelsea to clarify his future. According to recent reports, Gallagher, who is 24, is in Madrid for a medical with Atlético Madrid. The clubs have reportedly agreed on a transfer fee of £33 million.

Gallagher had turned down three contract extensions from Chelsea, seeking a new challenge away from the club. The deal with Atlético Madrid appears to be nearing completion.

In the meantime, Gallagher took a moment to reach out on Instagram to former Chelsea teammate Marc Guehi. Guehi, who had recently returned to social media after England’s loss to Spain at Euro 2024, thanked his supporters and reflected on the tournament experience.
