Aston Villa transfer target set for Spain move after taking advice

Summer Aston Villa transfer target Conor Gallagher is reported to be in talks to move from Chelsea to Spain. The England midfielder had been linked with a move to Villa earlier in the summer, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims his destination is likely to be La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
In a post to X on Wednesday, Romano said: “Atlético Madrid and Chelsea are on the verge of reaching an agreement for Conor Gallagher after talks in the last 24h. Story revealed on Tuesday morning, talks accelerated and €35/40m package almost agreed; small details to sort…it all depends on Conor’s decision.”
The latest development comes after Birmingham Live reported Gallagher had taken advice from England team-mate Kieran Tripper – who won the league at Atleti in 2021 – at UEFA Euro 2024 squad. According to the Spanish publication AS , Gallagher had questioned Trippier regarding life in the Spanish capital with the right-back urging him to make the move.
Gallagher was a mainstay in Chelsea’s midfield last season when he played 37 games, scoring five goals and registering seven assists, but has not renewed his contract in West London.
Villa have since signed Ross Barkley and also been linked with the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Sergi Roberto as Unai Emery remodels his midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.
Douglas Luiz has departed for Juventus, but Amadou Onana signed from Everton last week to help cover for the loss of long-term injury victim Boubacar Kamara.
